A note from Liberty:
Arthur’s Garden 2
Inspired by Liberty’s founder, Arthur Lasenby Libertys very own japanese garden, we invite you to step inside this beautiful botanical retreat, filled with plants brought home from travels afar. In the 1890s, Arthur Lasenby Liberty and his wife Emma bought the Lee Manor in the historic British county of Buckinghamshire and decorated it with a carefully curated collection of objects dart from around the world. Following a trip to Japan in 1889, the couple fell in love with the countrys unparalleled artisanship, creative heritage, and natural beauty – so much so, that the young Arthur Liberty was inspired to recreate a Japanese garden of his very own, complete with a lily pond, bamboo trees, and even Japanese zen rocks. Liberty Fabrics designers have drawn inspiration from Arthurs garden and the bloom laden trellises, tumbling blossoms, and ancient gingko trees that made his garden so special. Unwind amongst charming chrysanthemums, marvel at dahlias in full bloom, and see cascading waterfalls passing by blossoming cherry trees. Arthurs Garden is a tranquil retreat for everyone to enjoy. Meticulously hand-painted in the Liberty design studio, in the heart of London, and expertly printed in the Liberty Fabrics mill in Italy, the collection is traditionally screen printed onto Lasenby cotton, a base specifically developed for quilting and crafting projects.
Lasenby Cotton – Designed specifically for quilting, our soft Lasenby cotton base is suitable for a range of creative projects, including bedspreads, cushions and cosies. It is machine washable and durable enough for daily use, with each richly coloured design created using traditional screen-printing techniques.
Liberty Fabric / Crafting Fabrics
Named after the founder of Liberty, Arthur Lasenby Liberty, Lasenby Cotton was designed specifically with crafting in mind. Made from 100% cotton, Lasenby is printed and finished in our Italian Mill near the banks of Lake Como. Slightly heavier than its cotton companion, Tana Lawn™, Lasenby weighs 146 grams per square metre making it very stable and perfect for quilting.
Printed using traditional screen printing that infuses rich colour tones into the fabric, our studio designers’ photographic and painterly creations are brought to life in the most vivid way possible. Soft and smooth, this textile is just thing you’ll want to snuggle up to on a cold winter’s day or drape across your bed-scape during summer.
About Liberty Fabrics – The Liberty Fabrics department is a true design institution. World-renowned for their historic 50,000-strong print archive, and for their in-house studio where new artworks are painted and drawn by hand, the Liberty Fabrics offering reflects their storied heritage and century-spanning passion for art and design. From ornate Art Nouveau layouts and classic 1930s ditsy florals to bold geometrics, landscapes and offbeat conversationals, their fabrics offer a colourful canvas for bespoke creations of all kind – grab your favourite by the metre and get making.
All fabrics are cut from our stock in our studio in Dorset UK.
PRICING & CUTS:
HALF METRES & MULTIPLES THEREOF – We sell our fabric by the Half Metre, which equates to a piece of fabric measuring 50cm high by 110cm – 114cm wide (manufacturers selvidge to selvidge). If you require more than half a metre then please increase the quantity accordingly, for instance a quantity of 2 will give you 1 metre of fabric, 3 will give you a metre and a half and so on. Multiple quantities will be cut as one continuous length.
FAT QUARTERS – When it comes to quilting or sewing small items we all love a fat quarter. Unfortunately for us as a business we had to find a middle ground so that we could offer the best price available for the fabric, so we have chosen to sell in multiples of half metres instead of fat quarters. If you would like a fat quarter then we can still cut these but there is a minimum purchase of two from the either the same fabric range or same price range.
If you require more than two fat quarters from the same range/price range of fabric then do let us know and we can set up a custom order and calculate the cost of this for you.
We are also happy to provide you with a sample of the fabric at a cost of £2.00, this sample will be approximately 5″ square (12.7cm)
